German-Malaysian Connection

Print PDF Print Page

The collaboration between the two governments – German and Malaysian, started over thirty years ago.  The teamwork was initiated through political and economic relations.  The German-Malaysian connection became more pronounced as Germany sees Malaysia as an important partner in South-East Asia and Malaysia sees Germany as a significant technology provider especially in technical education and vocational training.

These extremely close and long-standing political, economic and cultural ties have established a number of joint bodies and institutions including the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MGCC) and the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI), both came into existence since 1992. Consequently, the exchange of government-represented visits provided valuable impetus here.
The German Embassy here coordinates German-related activities in Malaysia such as the annual German Week; promotes German language learning and German studies; and supports exchange programmes within its consular district. The Goethe Institute Kuala Lumpur and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are also important links between the two nations.
