National Dual Training System

National Dual Training System (NDTS) is a dual training apprenticeship system comprising of 70-80% training at the company and 20-30% at the training center. It is introduced to produce workers based on industry demand, thus reducing the problem of mismatch.

NDTS uses self-reliant learning and action-oriented approach to develop apprentices with k-worker occupational competence comprising of technical competence, social and human competences, and learning and methodological competences.

GMI, in collaboration with the Department of Skills Development (DSD), Ministry of Human Resources, conducts the following programmes for training personnel involved in the NDTS:

  • In-Company Coaches Training Programme for NDTS
  • Latihan Tenaga Pengajar Institut Latihan Awam Bagi Pelaksanaan SLDN
  • NDTS Master Trainer Development Programme
  • NDTS Curriculum Facilitator Development Programme
  • Dual System Expert Training Programme

From 2005 until present, GMI has trained about 700 coaches from the various industries, 600 instructors from public training institutes, 70 Master Trainers, 75 Curriculum Development Facilitators and 80 Dual System Experts.

In addition to these programmes, GMI has also facilitated curriculum development workshops for the following Training Occupations:

  • Automotive Mechatronics
  • Tool Making (Mould & Die)
  • Plant Operation
  • Process Automation
  • Offset Printing
  • Steel fabrication: Piping

GMI also sits in DSD committees to develop guidelines for curriculum development and assessment
