Kajang, 27 August 2025 – A new strategic partnership between the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) and Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED), Indonesia, launched today following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration is set to significantly expand vocational training, research opportunities, and international academic mobility.

This new agreement actively establishes a collaborative framework to enhance academic excellence and international mobility. The strategic partnership will focus on several key areas:
- Developing Double-Degree and Twinning Programmes with mutual credit recognition, providing students with international academic exposure.
- Delivering Joint English and German Language Programmes through joint initiatives, training, and academic activities.
- Facilitating Lecturer Exchange to share teaching methodologies, enhance language instruction, and strengthen cultural understanding.
- Designing an Ausbildung Pathway to jointly develop and promote vocational programmes aligned with German industry standards.
- Structuring a Student Exchange programme to offer cross-cultural academic experiences at both institutions.
- Conducting Joint Research Projects by leveraging the expertise and resources of both institutions for impactful international publications and conferences.

The delegation also toured GMI’s Advanced Technology Centres, including the CNC DMG Mori Academy, FESTO Lab, Hybrid & EV System Lab, and Cyber Battlefield Centre.
Building on this engagement, both institutions will organise a series of online guest lectures and knowledge-sharing sessions to further strengthen academic collaboration. This partnership strengthens a relationship that began in 2024 when a GMI delegation visited Medan. These initiatives reflect a shared commitment to strengthening academic links and empowering students to excel in an evolving global landscape.
