Philippines, 22 May 2025 – A new academic collaboration promises to advance technical education across Southeast Asia following the successful signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and engineering between the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) and Romblon State University (RSU) in the Philippines.

The partnership builds on connections made during the ASEAN Exhibition and Forum (AEF) 2025, where both institutions identified shared goals in modernizing technical education. This collaboration leverages GMI’s expertise in hands-on, industry-focused education to enhance technical training opportunities in the region. The partnership will implement German-Malaysian educational models while adapting to local context, ensuring relevance for both institutions’ stakeholders.
The agreement marks an important milestone in expanding international cooperation, offering a new avenue for knowledge exchange and capacity building. Future plans include collaborative research projects and the development of dual certification programmes that combine GMI’s technical strengths with RSU’s regional perspective.
As this partnership progresses, it will create valuable opportunities for students and institutions to gain international exposure while addressing critical skills gaps in technology fields.
