GMI Celebrates 369 Graduates At Its 29th Convocation Ceremony

KAJANG, 18 November 2023 – The German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) once again made history by hosting its 29th Convocation Ceremony at the Feisol Hassan-Halle, GMI Campus, Kajang, last Saturday (18 November 2023).

The ceremony celebrated 369 graduates from the Academic Session 2022/2023, consisting of 51 graduates from the Mechanical Engineering Department, 305 graduates from the Electrical Engineering Department and 13 graduates from the German Dual Vocational Training (GDVT) Mechatronics programme. To date, GMI has successfully produced a total of 12,912 graduates in the fields of Engineering and Technology.

The ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Hajah Rubiah Haji Wang, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW). In her opening remarks, which were delivered by Yang Berusaha Dato’ Sri Azhar Abdul Manaf, Director-General of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), she emphasized that in the pursuit of becoming a high-income nation and in line with the challenges of advanced technology, a change of mindset is inevitable and views that the Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) industry as a secondary option is outdated.

It is crucial for us to broaden our perspective and consider TVET as one of the primary pathways in today’s job market, aligning with the needs of the country and the contemporary world.

Present were GMI Board Members; MARA Council Member, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Seri Hasan Bin Malek; MARA Top Management members; industry representatives and academicians.

This year’s ceremony saw several special and prestigious awards, namely Best Final Year Projects, Best Student awards, Best Current Students, and the Best Overall Student for the 29th Convocation Ceremony, sponsored by 14 companies, GMI Alumni and Chief Executive Officer of GMI. Tan Aun Chun of CNC Precision Technology programme from the Mechanical Engineering Department was announced this year’s Best Student for Electrical Engineering and also Best Overall Student or the GMI Ehrenpreis für Exzellenz. He bagged an overall RM5,000.00 cash, winner’s plaques and certificates of achievement.
