Brunei Darussalam, 28 January 2026 – To strengthen technical education ties with Brunei Darussalam, the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) conducted a significant three-day visit from 26 to 28 January 2026. This engagement builds on productive collaborations established in 2025.
Two of dedicated GMI management team, Dr. Nurhafiza binti Kamaruddin, Head of Strategic Planning Section, and Ms. Norhazwani Hanis binti Ismail, Chief Integrity & Governance Officer, held a strategic visit at four institutions and two secondary schools, including:
- Politeknik Brunei
- Sekolah Menengah Anak Puteri Hajah Masna
- Universiti Brunei Darussalam
- Institute of Brunei Technical Education
- Universiti Teknologi Brunei
- Sekolah Menengah Berakas
The visit and discussions established concrete frameworks for collaboration in five key areas:
- Delivering structured internships featuring hands-on training and certification to address limited local industry opportunities for students.
- Enhancing professional capacity through targeted short courses and certification for Bruneian academic staff and trainers.
- Facilitating practical exposure via academic exchanges, summer schools, and technical workshops.
- Enabling expert and staff exchange to share knowledge and strengthen industry engagement.
- Fostering innovation through joint research projects between academic and industry partners.
This visit has successfully fortified GMI’s relationships with Brunei’s educational institutions, creating a robust foundation for long-term partnership in technical and engineering education.
These initiatives will directly support student development, provide vital international exposure, and advance GMI’s global institutional objectives.
