Kajang, 7 April 2025 – In a significant move to enhance international academic collaboration, the German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) welcomed Dr. Melanie Moll, Managing Director of the German Courses at the University of Munich e.V. and Member of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), along with Mr. Simon Lee, Representative for China of the German Courses at the University of Munich e.V.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of several GMI’s Advanced Technology Centers and led to substantial discussions on deepening bilateral cooperation. As part of the discussion, GMI proposed several potential collaboration opportunities, including pathways for its students to enter LMU’s FEANI-accredited engineering programs and the development of bilateral student exchange programmes with German language support through GMI’s German Language Center.

GMI also proposed establishing itself as an IELTS preparation center for international students, particularly from China. Additionally, technical exchanges in electric vehicle (EV) technology were discussed, with the possibility of hands-on training with BYD vehicles through Mercator Beijing’s network. Another exciting proposal was a women’s football initiative in partnership with VfL, designed to foster cultural exchange.
This visit marks a significant step in advancing German-Malaysian academic and technical collaboration. By combining LMU’s academic excellence with GMI’s industry-focused training, both institutions are paving the way for innovative education and sustainable mobility solutions.
