A representative from the GMI, Muhammad Firdaus Hafidzy bin Che’ AB Manan was among the 100 students from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). He was selected to participate in ‘This is Our Heritage: Student Volunteer Mission to Sabah 2024.
His Excellency the Governor of Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar Haji Mahiruddin, officiated the flag-off ceremony of this mission, and the Deputy Minister of National Unity, YB Senator Puan Saraswathy Kandasami, attended it at the Banquet Hall, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
This year’s Volunteer Mission to Sabah will take place from 1 to 18 September 2024. Volunteers will be sent to six districts:
- Penampang District
- Kudat District
- Kota Belud District
- Beaufort District, Papar District
- Kota Kinabalu District.
The students will carry out several major projects such as:
- The refurbishment of Company A
- Battalion 2
- School infrastructure Mosques
They will also plan and implement projects based on the six pillars of volunteerism of the Student Volunteer Foundation (YSS) through field observation.
Volunteer Missions to Sabah have been held since 2015 and YSS has carried out missions in 36 locations throughout Sabah. During the period, YSS trained 608 volunteers using an experiential learning approach where volunteers live with the local community.
