A Malaysian delegation commences the DAAD Information Visit Programme across Germany, actively pursuing transformative academic and research partnerships in Climate Change, Energy Transformation, Digitalisation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Semiconductors.
Deputy Managing Director (Academic and Operations), Ts. Fahrul Rizal bin A. Halim, represents GMI alongside delegates from the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MoSTI) and several other Malaysian higher education institutions. This unified contingent underscores Malaysia’s strategic commitment to benchmarking its technical education against Europe’s most rigorous standards.
Strategic Engagement Agenda

Throughout the week-long mission from 7 to 13 June 2026, the delegation actively engages with Germany’s foremost research and educational powerhouses. These include DAAD, DFG, UAS Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Fraunhofer FFB, FH Münster, HS Hannover and Leibniz University Hannover. These dialogues specifically explore collaborative frameworks in applied research, innovation transfer and the globally renowned German Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) model. This system celebrates its practice-oriented, industry-driven pedagogy that produces highly employable graduates.
This mission presents a pivotal opportunity to embed German engineering rigour directly into Malaysia’s academic framework. GMI actively pursues partnerships that extend beyond formal agreements, aiming instead for joint research laboratories, faculty exchange programmes and curriculum co-development. These collaborations directly prepare students for future industrial demands in semiconductors, green energy and advanced manufacturing.
Direct engagement with Fraunhofer and Leibniz University provides a critical channel to observe cutting-edge research firsthand. These insights will directly inform Malaysian national policies on technical education and innovation funding.
Long-Term Strategic Context
This visit advances GMI’s long-standing dedication to internationalising its curriculum and producing future-ready graduates. By forging these cross-border alliances, GMI ensures its programmes remain responsive to rapid technological shifts and directly aligned with multinational employer expectations.
