Kuala Lumpur, 23 July 2026 – The German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) took centre stage at the 1st E-Mobility ASEAN Roundtable, with Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Tuan Haji Ahmad Solihin bin Mohamed Yusoff, delivering a compelling address on the critical role of education in powering the region’s electric vehicle revolution.
The roundtable brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers, and academia to discuss innovation, infrastructure, workforce advancement, and the role of TVET in driving the e-mobility ecosystem.
GMI’s Commitment to Industry-Ready Talent
Tuan Haji Ahmad Solihin stressed the importance of globally recognised accreditation, pointing to GMI’s IMI-certified Hybrid & EV Systems Lab and eight IMI-certified lecturers. He also outlined GMI’s specialised short-term courses, including training for Bomba Malaysia personnel in EV safety and emergency response.

Beyond that, GMI houses 22 Advanced Technology Centres, with the autotronics curriculum evolving from engine simulation to BMW i3, Hybrid Volkswagen Jetta, and Hyundai Kona platforms, while now integrating autonomous vehicle technology. To ensure industry alignment, GMI’s Industry Advisory Council provides direct feedback to refine both diploma and short-term professional courses.

Aligned with GMI Ethos 2030, the institute continues to advance e-mobility through its expertise in autotronics, electric vehicle technologies, autonomous mobility, and industry-driven TVET.
